Baby animals of several different farm species drew families to Farm Country at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi on Friday.

The occasion? A joint birthday party for all the cute critters complete with cake, streamers, pony and wagons rides, face painting, educational games and of course hands-on time with the baby animals themselves.

"We have babies born year-round, but this is the day we celebrate with cake," explained Becky Dawson, manager at Farm Country. "We've got lots of baby animals right now and more to come."

Baby varieties of goats, sheep, cows, chickens, ducks, turkeys and pigs were present to celebrate their births by greeting guests from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $7 for children ages 3 and up, and includes a complimentary pony ride for kids ages 3-12 and wagon rides for everyone.

Though, many of the animals born are still without names, which is where the role of visitors comes into play. Visitors are invited to write down names and submit them in a box at Farm Country for the chance to have their name chosen for one of the many newborn animals.

"People will submit hundreds and hundreds of names, and then we pull them all out and go through them," said Summer Zemp, director of Signature Experiences at Thanksgiving Point. "It's just fun ones that we think are fun and they haven't been used or aren't already existing names of other animals."

Though there isn't a set-in-stone criteria for choosing names, organizers understand that many of the names submitted will be created by children. "Sometimes we don't always want the most-picked name," said Zemp. "Otherwise, every animal would have been named Elsa last year."

Besides cute animals, children had the opportunity to learn more about farming.

"Farm Country is a working farm," explained Dawson. "We're all about learning through inquiry. We try not to feed people the direct answer to the question, we answer their questions with more questions to help them be more curious and to learn more. Thanksgiving Point is all about hand-on, transformative family learning."

Dawson remarked in closing, "Come on out, the cake is delicious!"
